Fighter Rules 2009
- Running 3 times minimum per week from 6 weeks prior to your fight. (8 weeks in some cases)
- Train 3 times minimum per week from 6 weeks prior to your fight. (8 weeks in some cases) 1 of the sessions must be a class!
- No drinking alcohol 6 weeks prior to your fight. (8 weeks in some cases)
- Wai Kru' and Sealing the ring' are now compulsory before each fight. The Ram Muay' is optional.
- The club Monkon' must be worn but the Praciats' and robes are optional.
- Thai Boxing shorts as approved by the instructors must also be worn and not any other type unless previously arranged with your instructor.
- Each fighter needs to weigh themselves every week at the gym in the presence of an instructor and make sure they are on target to get to the agreed fighting weight. Failure to comply with agreed weight limit can mean the other fighter refusing to compete and automatically being given the win.
- Before each fighter competes on a main show they must successfully compete at interclub level 2 or 3 times.
Failure to adhere to these simple rules will force your instructor to pull you from the upcoming fight. This may seem harsh but as a fighter you represent not only yourself, but the gym as well. This gym has a good reputation all over the country and we would like you to help enhance it and not detract from it. This will only happen if you give 100% effort to all aspects of your training. As instructors we would like too see you give yourselves every opportunity to win every fight therefore the above rules will be implemented. The last 3 fighters rules are a matter of respect for your instructors, the art of Muay Thai and its traditions.
Club Rules 2009
- Bow on entering or leaving the training area.
- Bow to your instructor before and after each session.
- Do not speak when the instructor is talking (especially about unrelated topics) during classes.
- Bow to each new partner before and after any time spent together training.
- No swearing in the main classes (or in the private lessons).
- Proper respect will be shown to all instructors at all times.
- If you cannot attend a class you must ring and cancel (this is a common courtesy that should be shown to anyone let alone your martial arts instructors).
- If you are late for a main class you will not be allowed to train unless this has previously arranged or unless the situation was totally unavoidable.
- Early departures from a class will not be allowed without prior arrangement with the instructor.
- If you are late for a private lesson your finishing time will be as originally planned and not extended due the lateness of the student.
- All training fees will be paid in advance without exception and any person not cancelling classes with adequate notice will be expected to forfeit a unit or pay the appropriate booking fee for the class
- You will not be allowed to wear uniforms from other gyms without the prior consent of the instructor who is teaching at the time.
- No eating in the main training area or drinking fluids other than water. All other drinks must be left in the changing area.
- Any student wishing to train at other gyms in the same sport must inform the instructor. This is for the obvious reason of match making as part of the show process.
- Any refusal to perform specific manoeuvres as asked by your instructor or differences in opinion in what we teach will not tolerated. All the instructors have years of teaching experience and fight experience and do not deserve to be treated with ill respect. Just remember the instructors at Keddle's Gym work 80 100 hours per week each, this makes them more experienced at teaching than any instructor that teaches at a sports hall a couple of times a week.
While none of the instructors want to remove your enjoyment in training, it is now becoming vital that we reinstate the proper martial respects that should be shown to your fellow trainee and your instructor. This is to allow all students to flourish and feel comfortable in a disciplined and safe environment. Failure to adhere to these simple rules will incur penalties, ranging from e.g. 50 press-ups to refusal of admission to all classes and cancelling of membership.
It has been indicated by several people that (especially in the Thai Boxing) they do not want to pay proper respects on religious grounds. Other than bowing Wai (the Thai equivalent of a Western hand-shake) the only other respects asked for is Wai Kru (Bow to teacher); this triple bow once again has no religious significance but represents paying respects to the art and its teachers: - Past, Present and Future.
